JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
An exciting opportunity is available for a self-motivated, inquisitive, and innovative researcher to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University’s Center for Additive Manufacturing, CIMP-3D, Center for Innovative Material Processing through Direct Digital Deposition. In this role, you will be part of more than a dozen world-class engineers, scientists, and support staff that are engaged in the discovery, development, and deployment of Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology.
You will:
Manage and provide technical leadership of AM projects involving fundamental and applied research and development of metals, ceramics, and composites for our Navy, DoD, and industrial sponsors
Coordinate scientific and engineering efforts across universities, laboratories, companies, and other entities
Specify, define, and/or develop AM systems and processes; define test protocols, perform or coordinate materials characterization, and conduct failure analysis
Typical requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline; Master’s Degree preferred; 14+ years related experience.
Required skills/experience areas include:
A minimum of five years of direct-related AM experience
Demonstrated ability to lead and/or collaborate with other scientists and engineers through difficult problems, using proper steps to define and formulate ideas to reach a solution
Success in a technical environment, where various forms of communication and organizational skills were crucial to be effective
Effective at presenting in front of large groups of professionals, conveying information to drive to action or decision
Preferred skills/experience areas include:
Active government security clearance
Military or DoD research experience
Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA. Domestic and international travel will occasionally be required to support testing, reporting, and technology implementation.
