5 Questions To Ask Yourself Before You “TURN UP!”

By Taylor Hurles on October 3, 2015

It’s the beginning of the semester or quarter and it feels good, it’s a new start, it’s time to turn over that new leaf!

This year you are going to kill it, that 3.5 G.P.A  has your name all over it! But then you get invited out. I mean what’s one party after all? I mean is it really a party? No, it’s a gathering, yeah, just a small gathering with a few cool people? Right?

These “gatherings” creep up on you and all of a sudden you have been turning up too much! It is the middle of the semester and you are behind on readings and have a paper due in two days! DON’T BE THAT PERSON! This list is a list of questions I have assembled to help you stay on track before you “turn up!”

1. Should I spend money on this alcohol, or buy that book I really need to buy?

You have the money for the book and think you’ll just borrow the book instead of buying it, I mean a few extra bucks for alcohol won’t make a difference. But then it becomes too complicated to just borrow it and you are scrambling to catch up on reading, and all of a sudden that money used for the turn up turns down your grade. Before you turn up make sure you have all the supplies you need to do great this semester!

2. Is something due soon?

Believe it or not smaller assignments that count for smaller portions of your grade can impact your grades if you miss them! So make sure before you go out if there is something due, it will make a big difference.

3. Do I have my priorities straight?

Have you looked at your planner? Is everything caught up? If everything is done, then do you have your priority and to-do list ready for what needs to be completed after the turn up?

4. Where is my stress level?

Evaluating where your stress level is, is very important with any major turn up decision. If you are really stressed out the turn up can easily get out of hand and you may drink more than necessary. So make sure your stress level is healthy enough to manage in social situations.

5.  Is this the right time to turn up?

“But it sounds so fun! Everyone is going, I don’t want to stay home!” That Sunday night party sounds good … on Sunday!

But, the morning after you are not feeling well and are NOT ready for that 8:00 a.m lecture … hmmm it probably wasn’t wise to go to that Sunday night rager!

Manage your recreational activities wisely and don’t let them interfere with the main reason why you went to college, which after all is to get educated!

I know I sound like a lecturing parent, but these questions are important to ask, take them to account and you may see a difference in your grades, and overall wellbeing! If all your answers are where they need to be then you must ask yourself TURN DOWN FOR WHAT?
